What it didn't have was a company built around getting that work to the businesses that actually need it. Abhinav and Anany Sharma — both Civil Engineers — built one. A Master of One Craft Is Rarely Competent at the Next.

He can still hold a shuttle. He just doesn't know it the way he knows a block — the exact pressure, the moment right before a colour bleeds, how a pattern drifts if you rush the fourth repeat instead of the first. That knowledge lives in one craft. It rarely moves to the next bench.

Most manufacturing pretends otherwise. A pair of hands is a pair of hands — move them wherever the order needs filling. We built Sourced in India on the opposite belief, because we've seen what happens when that belief is wrong: a printer doing a weaver's job, competence somewhere between adequate and forced, on an order a client paid master-craft prices for.

If you've sourced from India before, this will sound familiar. Real skill in one workshop, no professional infrastructure around it. Or sharp communication and a reliable shipping date — and when the goods land, you're not entirely sure whose hands made them. Rarely both in the same place.

That gap is the only reason this company exists.

Most of what these artisans know was never in a manual. Watch someone correct another person's hand mid-stitch, without a word — just pressure, a small adjustment, repeated until it's right — and you're watching exactly how this knowledge has always moved here. Not taught. Absorbed. In some workshops, it's been happening long enough that nobody remembers whose hands it started with.

It asks for time above everything else. A machine's entire purpose is removing time from a process. Craftsmanship asks a person to give it back — to sit, repeat, and let one piece take longer than any factory would allow. That patience used to be ordinary. It isn't anymore. Most manufacturing has simply stopped trying to source it, because sourcing it is inconvenient, and convenience usually wins.

Here's what we noticed. The people who built this mastery spent none of their time learning how to reach a retailer in London or a wholesaler in Chicago. That was never their skill to build — they were busy building a harder one. So the product would travel, trader to wholesaler to shelf, and somewhere in that chain, one thing would stop travelling with it: whose hands actually made it.

A trading business would have been the easier company to build. Buy what's already finished, sell it on, move to the next order. Matching 350+ specialists to the exact craft they've spent decades on, and keeping that consistent, order after order, is not the easy version. We didn't choose it because it sounded good in a pitch. We chose it because the easy version is exactly how an artisan's name disappears in the first place.

This isn't charity, and we'd rather you not read it that way. Nobody here needs saving. These are specialists whose work earns real money in international markets, because real expertise is worth real money. We don't compete by being cheap. We compete by being right — the correct hands, on the correct craft, every time.

The arrangement only works if it works both ways. You grow, you order more. We get more work into the hands of the person who's actually good at it. Nobody here is doing anyone a favour.

Abhinav and Anany Sharma are Civil Engineers, not the sons of textile traders. Neither inherited this world. What they had, living and working around Jaipur's workshops, was enough proximity to keep asking a question the industry mostly stops asking: if the skill is already this good, why does it still need someone to explain that it's good enough?

Nobody had answered that properly. So they built the company that tries to.

A craftsman's hands hold decades inside them. Those hands have an end date. Whether global demand for that mastery catches up to it in time, or arrives after it's too late to matter, isn't decided yet.

We started this company to be on the right side of that timing.

The skill never needed help. The distance did.
